The Department of Mobile Radio Systems headed by Prof. Thomas Kürner deals with radio transmission in all its facets. The fields of research of the department range from radio propagation to link and system level simulations of communication systems. At the Institute, a UWB mm-wave channel sounder is deployed in the channel characterization and modelling of future multi-gigabit indoor communication systems in the THz range.

In the Meteracom project, the IfN contributes with its expertise in channel sounding, channel propagation characterization and simulation of communication systems. Furthermore the IfN will coordinate the project and is responsible for the project related homepage.

Within the Meteracom project Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kürner is working on the characterization of the measurement equipment (Project Area A), the metrological charactersation of the propa- gation channel (Project Area B) and the measurements required for enabling the functionality of THz communications (Project Area C). He is involved in the projects Channel Sounding (A2), Propagation Channel (B1), Device Discovery (C1) and Parallel Transmission (C2). Furthermore Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kürner is the designated project coordinator of the Meteracom project.
